A Visit to Badlands National Park

The Badlands Ain't So Bad

July 2014 was when we did our massive 22 state, 15 national park road trip. This was the first National Park on our trip! On previous road trips, we had been to Shenandoah National Park, The Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Hot Springs National Park so we were especially excited about the new National Parks we would see. Like we do at every National Park we visit, we take a picture by the entrance sign. We are sad to say, that we do not have one of us at the Shenandoah NP sign. We plan to go back one day and get one!

The video below is from our dash cam as we drove through the park. It is the entire drive from the eastern 240 entrance to the exit near Wall, SD. We shared it online so those folks who might never get to go to the park can still see it. Yes, we know it is not as good as seeing it in person, but it is better than nothing.

The Badlands are awesome. The scenery is unlike anything we had ever seen before. The wildlife is different, the air is different... it was quite the adventure. We saw prairie digs, crickets, deer and tourists. You drive up and down lots of hills on a very curvy road so as I drove and glanced out the windows, Cynthia took pictures. We did stop at all the pull-outs on the road to take pictures and soak in the beauty of the park.

Below are the pictures we took in the park itself. The other attractions in South Dakota have their own page and there is a separate page for the random stuff we saw in the state. You can find those links here.
