Custer State Park

In the Black Hills of South Dakota

July 2014 was when we did our massive 22 state, 15 national park road trip. We stayed 2 nights in Rapid City, SD to give us time to see all the things we wanted to see in the area. One of those things was Custer State Park. We got very lucky with the weather on our trip and the day was beautiful as we visited Custer State Park. We were told we had to see the buffalo, the antelope and the donkeys so we made our way over to the scenic drive that goes through the park.

We saw quite a few buffalo. Most of them gathered in one or two places and a few loners wandered about on their own. Most of the antelope we saw were off in the distance so the pictures of them aren't as good as the buffalo and donkeys. They warn you not to feed or otherwise interact with the donkeys, but people don't listen. We came across a large group of people feeding and petting the donkeys. We took a few pictures of them then continued our scenic drive. If you are visiting this area, please stay long enough to see all the sights. You'll be glad you did.

Here are the pictures we took while at Custer State Park.
